[SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE]
1957-1973 : Jorn Utzon : Sydney, Australia

"It is one of the great iconic buildings of the 20th century, an image of great beauty that has become known throughout the world" (wikipedia.org)

The Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Sitting on Bennelong Point, virtually in the Harbour and overlooked by the great Sydney Harbour Bridge, the house is made up of multiple spherical forms as roof sections. The pure curving shapes cross the harbor in great heroic harmony. The opera house encompasses most of the "useful thoughts" list; unit+whole, repetitive+unique, symmetry+balance, hierarchy+system being the most evident. This expressionist modern design represents Sydney and over time, it has become a symbol for the country of Australia and across the world. It is one of the most famous and most photographed structures of the modern era. I cannot wait to further research and learn about how this building has contributed to interior architecture, design and the world.
