precedent analysis : cologne cathedral

For Patrick's Design Theory & History class, I, along with Rebecca Ladd and Kathy Blair, researched the Cologne Cathedral from Cologne, Germany. This amazing Gothic Cathedral is the symbol and heart of the city as its architecture is greatly detailed and very powerful. Any passerby would feel overwhelmed by the massive size of the structure, but empowered as its influence of religion is great. The impact travels inside the space as well as the ceilings are high and form crosses at the top with columns reaching down the floor on both sizes all the way to the alter. In our descriptions of the ancient building, we when further by mentioning various other cathedrals, comparing and contrasting them to Cologne. I found this assignment enjoyable and beneficial for my knowledge of architecture.
